A Tale of Two Kitties

This is my daughter and this is "Momma Kitty". Momma Kitty was left by her owners so we have been taking care of her for awhile. We planned on getting her fixed but before we could get her an appointment she took off and showed up with a belly. I didn't realize how far along she was. On September first I was coming in from a morning run and she greeted me at the door as she usually does and she was looking a little thin. After inspection I realized she had the kittens.

She meowed quite a bit and lead us over to where she had them. Since she doesn't like to come in the house, we have tried, we kept a close eye on her and the babies everyday.

She actually had 4 kittens but one wasn't strong enough. It was heart breaking to see. He just wouldn't latch on. I called the vet and they said there was nothing I could do. The other three were very strong and I have to say Momma Kitty is a wonderful mother.

I am sad to say that after a few days she moved them which is what I was afraid of. I went looking for them but could not find them. It was a few weeks later and Momma Kitty showed up on my door step crying. I opened the door and my fear had been realized. They had been hurt. She brought me one of them and it was already gone. She kept looking up at me as if she wanted me to fix her and there was nothing I could do. My first thought was where are the other kittens. I ran in the house and told my husband what was happening. We were expecting some company for my son's Birthday but I went out to see if I could find the other two. I ran to the woods and could not find them. I ran to my neighbors house to see if he could help but he was not home. I then saw Momma kitty run accross the street with a ball of fur in her mouth and I saw the kittens legs curled up underneath. She had hidden the kitten across the street and was bringing them to my house under my porch for safety.  I had to get back to my family but as soon as everyone left I had to see if they were both there and both ok so I took my camera and held it under my porch because I couldn't fit in to see and took a few pictures and this is what I saw.

I was so happy they were safe and sound. I was also wondering how I was gonna get the plastic bottle out of there.  Over the next few weeks we watched them grow and kept an eye on them. Many nights after the kids went to bed David and I would sit on the porch with Momma Kitty and the babies. We had all the intention of finding them good homes. I was hoping to keep the two of them together. The Torte Kitten had gotten a bad wound on her head during the attack but did recover. Her sister would clean her and take care of her.

They were so funny playing all the time and they stuck right to the porch and Momma Kitty didn't move them again. The kids loved playing with them and watching them grow.

Cutest Kittens EVER!!!

The time flew by and by the time they were old enough to find a home it was my birthday and my husband said that I could keep one. I really wanted to find a home for both of them together but that night all I could think about is that moment when I was unsure if they were still alive and the relief when I saw they were. I knew it was a lot and going to be more work for me but in the end we kept them and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Cross My Heart

I have gotten back to crafting which I absolutely love doing. Growing up my Nana would make our clothes and costumes and we would go to all the craft shows. She made everything from ornaments, wreaths, to crocheted blankets, Doll houses with furniture, Doll clothes, she is a seamstress so she can make pretty much anything and everything.

Here are a few of the homemade costumes and dresses she would make us when we were growing up.

She also made us New Kids on the Block Comforters one year with matching pillows and doilies, but I am not showing that ;)

When I started Photographing Newborns I started going to Etsy  a lot to find the hats and props for the shoots. I love that website. Quite possibly my favorite right now. I have gotten some great things from some great vendors.

My great friend Crochets these beautiful pieces. You can find Erin on Facebook and on Etsy. She is Wonderful!

Scarlett’s Whimsy is such a talented Artist who made this beautiful headband. She makes custom orders as well. You can order her items and check out her work on her Etsy and let me just say her customer service is outstanding.

When you visit Etsy you can't help but get inspired. I decided to get back into crafting and even started a local Crafting group on Facebook so I could share and get inspired with others. We are having our first meet tomorrow night and I am really excited !

I am loving crafting and sharing with my daughter. We have been making Yarn wreaths and dolls. She is still in the process of making hers but doing Fantastic! Once she finishes I will show you what she has done =)

I have been juggling 5 Wreaths and well the wreaths are time consuming they are very fun to make. I wanted to try different decorating techniques and while selecting the decorations I would make I wanted to add something special to them that would make them more me. If you know me you will know I love cute girly things and I thought what is more girly then a doll. So I went on down to Michaels and bought some supplies and I do like how my first set of dolls came out. I find as I create it goes and goes and evolves into something else and then I just know Yes that is it =)

So here is my first finished Yarn Wreath and Doll set just in time for Valentine's day.

I call it

"Cross My Heart"

It's amazing what some wood, yarn, paint and a little glue can create.

For some reaon when I am at the end of a blog I am not sure what to say so I am going to quote Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone from now on =)

What Can I say?

No Really! What can I say? I am not big on talking about me or things I do except to some close friends in person so I am not sure what to say for my first blog post. So you might be asking yourself ... Why are you starting a personal blog Maxine? Well that is a great question and the answer is I need to break out of my shell a bit. I do a lot of things and think I wish I could tell someone or even just put it somewhere so I can go back to it later, so I guess that is why =)

About me ..

Well, My name is Maxine and I live in North Carolina. I am originally from New Hampshire but moved down here with my family to purchase our first home almost 7 years ago. I am 28 and have an awesome Husband named David and Two beautiful children. I love being a mother and wife! I have always wanted to be a Mother and feel so very blessed.

This is our Christmas card from 2009.

I am  also a Photographer. My website is here and my Photography blog is here and just cause everyone is on facebook you can find me there as well.

Our Christmas Card this year was just my children. It wasn't my original idea for this year but I do love how it came out.

It was fun thinking of the details to put on the Post. My husband and I laughed a lot making this card. I am hoping my friends and family noticed this part of the card. Actually I was told by a few people they had to do a double take because they didn't realize it was our children. I guess I should take it as a compliment.

This year for the holidays I decided to make meaningful gifts. I made homemade calendars and stationary from my photography. I printed my cards out at International Minute Press and Jen was just fantastic there.

My Calendar for my Husband was our Family Photos

I also gave my Aunt and Grandfather a calendar but I will blog about that later =)

I have been crafting a lot lately which is something I have always done but with kids I think it is easy to get overwhelmed with everyday life that you forget to make time for yourself. This year I have decided to put myself back on my to do list. I always try to do stuff with the kids but my goal is to keep on top of things and not wait last minute. I will be blogging about that stuff as well.
